I have some roo's that I'm keeping in my garage to avoid annoying the neighbors. This would be perfect for them. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks for changing the images, I tried that the first time and they didn't come up, so I switched it so they can at least be viewable.

I used an old Rubbermaid bin as a brooder for the first 4 - 5 weeks. After fumbling with cardboard boxes and wire racks as lids for the first week, I put together this simple frame with chicken wire and a piece of pine trim. Now I can see what they are doing and keep them from jumping out. It's also easier to position the brooder lamp according to their temp needs. This pic also shows the 65 cent funnels (Walmart automotive dept) I used to keep them off of the feeders.

My husband made me a *hay cleaner* last year for some chopped alfalfa we got that was filled with dirt and silt. It worked so easy and thorough. Then I used it to put on top of our homemade brooder in an old metal horse trough. Your's is brilliant, and I always say to myself,"Now why didn't I think of that?" (Refering to your funnels that is

Hey I like that idea. The one I made I attached the hardware cloth to the lid with duct tape and it kept coming off. This is a much better idea Thanks for sharing!

Zip ties or pipe cleaners work great for attaching hardware cloth. I made a few of these when I had to transport some birds.

Here is an update on my rain-water collection system...I did a mock up of the piping system including shut offs and disconnecting couplings so I can take part of the system apart for cleaning or up keep..I also put a "T" in it adding a line to fill a bucket or draining of the system...The "trap" in the upper line is to keep bugs from entering that way as well as providing a overflow....Seems to be working pretty well and I will paint it all black when I am done and get the parts glued up but no leaks even without glue.

Just a thought on this, you're probably going to need to paint the barrel white (or better silver) to reflect sunlight. Essentially what you have there is a solar water heater. During the bright summer sun the water in that sucker is going to get HOT! I've got a similar system that I use to pre-heat water going into my water heater and during the summer when it's warm out and the sun is shining bright I'm getting output temps of 110+ with a blue 55 gallon drum that's painted black.
