DLHOCNT's Thoughts and Ramblings

Pics
This morning I spent several hours in the backyard with the chickens. Mostly trying to bond with the younger ones. We got them right before winter and while they do come running when they see me, they want nothing to do with me once they realise i have no food :(.. I've been going out to their coop at night when they are sleepy and calm, I give them pets and snacks. Its working. I've never had a cuddly chicken who enjoys casual pets.. I wonder if I can ever achive that, or if its just a personality type.

Oh and today I noticed my plant had a baby, exiting stuff.

You will definitely have chicken friends if you keep spending time like that with them. We now have lap chickens from sitting in lawn chairs with ours. They all want a little time saying hello to us. If given the chance they fly up on my back while I’m tending food and water now.

the best photo I've ever taken

0.27 acres , the coop is supposed to hold 12 chickens, we have 7 in there. They are never locked in the coop for more than 2 days. The coop and the run are the same size, but like I said, we let them out every day
How many square feet is it? Chickens are supposed to have 4 sq ft in the coop and 10 sq ft in the run per chicken. Of course it’s not a hard rule.

Its about 35 sq ft .. the run is the same size. The coop is on top of the run. I have heard people say that free roam chickens who only sleep in the coop dont need as much room.
