DNA sex testing

To those asking why I feel the need to get a test done for something that should be simple to see “soon”, well for some of us it’s not so simple. I’ve only had chickens for not even 5 months so I’m still learning the basics let alone the difficult things like sexing Silkies. Also I’m not a patient person. It may seem dumb to some of you but to me spending $11 each on two tests is worth the peace of mind I’ll gain in knowing 100%. Other than that, I don’t really know how else to answer that question…

Sometimes "soon" is too long to wait :)

I'm usually good at sexing my own chicks, and I'm sometimes good at being patient, but I've also gotten DNA sexing done on a few puzzling ones because I was just plain tired of waiting!

I've used DNA Diagnostics Center before. Link below. They provide detail instructions on both feather and nail clipping method. There response time is within 1 week.

I’ve used this center as well and have been emailed the results. They took about 10+ days to get back. But I was happy with the results.

A- pullet
B- cockerel (wide comb)

If you do the dna test, please share the results :)

I’m inpatient about waiting on a silkie. That is why I sneak the test behind my DH back 😂 he hates the price of the test. But as I mentioned I do the wick clip and very lightly clip it to draw almost no blood. I than massage the nail to get the blood out onto the sample paper you’d print out. And apply pressure and it stops bleeding right away. If you want the dna test, than go for it😊

Sorry I guess I shouldn’t have made my post so long winded or worded it differently because it took away from my actual question. I don’t need advice on whether or not I should get the test done, I’m wondering if using lancet on a chicken would be ok? I’m so sorry if that comes off rude or snarky, I just don’t want any confusion. I know being “straight to the point” usually comes off as rude so I truly do apologize in advance!
