Hi, I have an almost three month old silkie that I'm looking to have sexed to know for sure what it's gender. I'm prepared to use iQ bird but I'd really prefer not to. Is there an alternative option to get them sexed where I don't have to do it myself? One it would hurt me to see the baby in pain and two, she/he can be pretty panicky. Does anyone have advice on how to do the blood testing process? What is effective and how can I keep him/her calm enough. Thank you so much.

There are only 2 good ways to get a test done. Either their hatching egg or a blood sample. Yes,, you can also do a feather sample but it has to be a feather from a particular area on their body and to me it is more stressful to pluck the proper feathers than it is to get a blood sample.

Getting the blood sample is easy.

1. download the sampling form from IQbirdtesting.com.
2. Have someone wrap the chick in a towel so a foot is out.
3. Using a dog/cat nail clipper, cut a little at a time of one of the toe nails until you reach the "quick" and a drop of blood comes out.
4. Rub the blood on the form.
5. Put some stytic powder on the nail to stop the blood. (cornstarch or lip balm also work)

That's it. The chick goes on its merry way like nothing happened.

Silkie: Try your luck at a guess. I 100% KNOW the answer

Post a pic. A three month old Silkie should be fairly easy to sex.
I have two 13 week old chicks. Can you help me out?
I know my white guy is a roo, not sure about my buff
