Do all drakes make this noise?

Very true I had forgot about my younger drakes and how sneaky they were it’s been about 4 yrs since I’ve had more than one Muscovy drake sure has been nice too:lol: my gander and Muscovy drake get into some pretty serious fights they don’t give up.
I expect an interesting spring as my 3 drake brothers mature, and sort it all out. We butchered their father last fall because of chicken aggression. So I'm starting out new with the 3 Stooges.:)

I feel for you, hopefully they will live in peace. They sure know how to keep life interesting don’t they? Lol
Well thankfully they aren't confined, so the loser can get away.

I suspect the black will take charge as he already stands up to the Chihuahua mix dog that likes to chase them on occasion. She literally ran into him the other day because he didn't move when she charged. Boy was she shocked.

As long as they don't harass my chickens I will keep them all. It's been a few years since I had new young ducks. They live so long that I can barely let anyone hatch or I'd be overrun.

I know they are long lived I have a female that is going to be 12 in the spring and her drake was a month shy of 12 when he passed away. My Muscovys are 6yrs and older last my girls hatched was going on 3 yrs ago when they hatched Runners an Buffs. I hope I can keep Muscovys for a long time to come they are very special.Have you ever posted pics of your on the Scovy thread? I’d love to see some of yours.

I did a few years back. I can put a few on there from about a month or so ago.

I currently have 18 because I hatch a few this year hoping to get a new drake. Out of 12 hatched I got my 3 drakes and the rest are hens.

Most of mine live to 12-14 years as long as a predator doesn't snatch them. I'm always surprised how long lived and healthy they are, and that they continue to lay through their whole lives. The mother to the 9 ducklings is my 12 year old hen. Some of the eggs were hers too.

How cool to have one still laying my close to 12 stopped laying about 3 yrs ago she was something else when broody Atilla the hun. Non of my other females have ever been as aggressive as her. That was a nice ratio to get 3 drakes and the rest females. I am down to 5 4 females and my drake I guess if I expect to keep them forever I best let my girls do some hatching.

I really enjoyed duckling again. My black female is extremely aggressive when broody. I didn't let her hatch, she's crazy.

Seems I lost the muscovy thread, still searching for it to move this over there. :)

Although this makes me happy that I have muscovy. There's no sandwiches because mating can take up to a half an hour for some drakes. It at least takes them about 5-10 minutes to chase the girl down, and another 5-10 to get in position. I had forgotten how nutty the mallard based ducks are with mating.
Lol, my boys are very much the "Wham bam thank you ma'am" type - the whole episode from start to finish lasts barely a minute! So far there's never been any chasing, typically it is my girls who choose when they want to mate, generally if they are in the same pool as the boys they will lay flat and quack at them, at which the boys always oblige, if in a different pool, they call the boys to them and as usual the boys are quick to oblige lol.
The lower ranking hen is way more active than the alpha female, often she will have both boys, one straight after the other and there have been occasions when the boys have been in separate pools and she's gotten in with one, mated then jumped straight into the other pool and mated with the other lol. The alpha female is far more picky, she rarely allows herself to be mated more than twice a day and she rarely allows the lower ranking male to mate with her but does let him occasionally if he's lucky, lol. Whether this will be a different story when mating season comes in spring, remains to be seen but so far it is the girls who decide who, when and how many times and the lower ranking drake doesn't get to mate anywhere near as much as the alpha drake does and often looks so forlorn as his advances get rebuffed and the alpha gets called into the pool instead - the alpha gets to mate every day often several times, where as the are times when the lower ranking doesn't get to mate at all.
