do all roosters fight each other

thank you all for your advise and information. I just don't know about my rooster, he is my favorite and one other hen. Have you heard of pine straw being good or bad for them to walk on. I don't think his leg is broke he can walk normal a few steps. Even less now. I will try the sling. Need to figure out the best place to put him out of the rain if it rains. I have looked at the color of his feet. They have a little pink between his toes but no discoloration. I do worry about frost bite, his crown has a few dark frost bite points. I really appreciate the help and you all don't say "time to put him in the pot".

I would suggest to keep him in the house if you have him in the sling to prevent further problems like you said with frostbite. Pine shavings will be fine.

thank you, if he's not better in one week, what would you suggest.

Any wounds or just his leg?

Check his leg for swelling, can you feel a fracture? Is his leg bent at all? You can give him an epsom salt soak, this usually helps for sprains/sore muscles/cleaning. If no improvement in leg, check for a slipped tendon. To check for tendon, run your thumb down the back of his leg from hock(leg joins body)to shank(scales start)press down while doing this,if tendon has slipped it will feel like an elastic band, you can actually feel it(feels springy/loose)when pressing down,it will snap back into place.

Keep him quiet and keep him warm(when ill/injured chickens cannot regulate their body temp)so additional heat is required. Keep him separate from other birds. Make sure he is eating/drinking.

For pain, you can purchase Metacam from a vet or give him a low dose aspirin(81mg)or reg aspirin(325mg)dose is 25mg per lb of body weight. Crush and place in water or sprinkle over feed or give orally(wrap in a pce of meat or cheese).

Leg injuries can take weeks to heal,so do not get discouraged, this is normal. Does he hold leg up or hobble around using wing for balance?

I will check his legs in the morning. He is waddling around on his shanks both lets. Thank you again will keep you informed.
