do any of you have trouble selling your eggs

Re: The contact information that was posted. Thank you so much. I do want to let anyone who is in Nevada know that the NDOA has a new contact number. It is 775-353-3600.

I spoke with a person who is sending me more information on what needs to be done to obtain certification here in this state.

OK now I'm intriged.

Some of you sell your eggs through other sellers?

What type of eggs are in demand right now?

What about eggs that are not chicken eggs, like quial, etc. ??

Everything you've read here should impress you with the reality that everything is almost completely dependent on local market circumstances. Demand. Pricing. Type of egg, etc. You know this, but just wanted it said for any beginner out there.

Quail I have no problem with. Just an example. I was thinking Chukars and Pheasant.

I'm kind of looking for more options later on. I had older birds and been having a hard time building up a fresh new flock this year. But next season I should have some really nice birds again and more eggs if I can get my numbers up.

Maybe we need a thread for egg sales ideas, not just the ones I've seen for eggs for consumption. Just a way to show marketing options or something.

The area I live in is big on quail. I've started hatching out all I can. Not a lot of people even know how to hatch them and I've helped a few people build bators, but the market for them never seems to dwindle much. Chukars, people go crazy over. Yep, gonna get some. LOL

I've sold hatching eggs from my chickens, but just really getting started with the others. Just had someone help me figure out what went wrong with the pheasants, now I need to figure out geese.

I'm thinking I might hatch out a few turkeys since holidays are coming up, but not to sure my neighbors will be thrilled.

Would be nice to see some ideas on marketing though, without having to search toms of sights and auctions.

in order to do well on any of them, you cant rely on local markets. You have to be willing to ship and put stuff on auction sites. We'd all go into the poor house if we solely had to rely on locals for all our sells of egg or chicks

TK, if you are selling eating eggs, it doesn't matter what is in your flock, as long as it will lay eggs.

If you are selling hatching eggs, I suggest that you purchase the best purebreds that you can afford. If you don't have a lot of money, buy fewer birds.

If you've got an incubator, you can turn a trio of nice birds into 600 birds in one year. Then cull them down and that will be 300 hens and maybe 150 keepers. How many birds do you need?

For the cost of one order of chicks from the hatchery, you can get a trio ( or maybe a pair) of exceptionally nice birds. Maybe not the Grand Champion, but birds that give you the possibility of raising a Grand Champion. You just have to start with fewer birds. But with an animal that can lay 300 eggs in a year, it is very fast to build up a flock.

I've mainly shipped eggs and done auctions. I could maybe sell locally but there are a lot of people especially on CL with hatching eggs.

I'm hoping to be able to offer quail eggs soon. I'm just working on building up my stock. I've had some horrible hatches myself and I've lost brooder chicks twice to cats. I'm still trying to figure out how they get in my garage. I never leave the doors open these days and I can't find an entrance. I do have some nice stock from top breeders, so hoping to be able to offer more hatching eggs next season. I'm not NPIP. My reasoning is I know there are great breeders who are not NPIP and I don't want to have to pass over their stock. It was something we were working on though just before my husband died last summer, so I do think it's something I'll do in the future so I can also offer chicks through the mail.

I know there are lists of sites to advertise on but maybe we can get a better list going and not so spread out over the site.

At the moment I have several breeds and varieties and working on building them up and hopefully even showing some along the way.
