Glad to hear that the licking chick has stopped.

I would now like the address the others who were less than polite,
The OP never asked "What would you do?" The question was can chicks lick? I am not going to get on here and bash someone for the choice THEY made with THEIR animals. I am not going to say well I would never debeak. The OP never asked. Can you all see my point here? As far as a licking chick....well that sounds comical to me, I am sure it is not but I could not help but to chuckle........

Glad to hear things are working out. I occasionally have to tell our flock - 'hey, let's get along, shall we!' Just because I have raised my voice, it usually gets their attention and they move on to do something else....

I am so happy to hear that the little "licky" settled down. Maybe all s/he needed was a little "time out"

I'll keep my fingers crossed that all stays peaceful with your flock!

Hope all goes well with your little flock of babies. Tell your children I wish them well with their chickies.

About 2-3 months ago I bought 4 hens from a guy who had about 200 of them, when I got home I realized they were de beaked (should of figured) I guess that's what happens to the poor chicks/chickens that get stuck in a 10 x 10 with 200 others, Very sad to watch them try to eat with no beaks or to try to groom themselfs !!!! anyway I have noticed that one of the hens has a way shorter beak than the others (must of been a BAD de-beaking job) I notice she sticks her tongue out a lot and moves it around. She doesn't lick the others but uses her tongue a lot.

Thank you! I think thats a heck of a lot better than gettin pecked to death! Good lord folks, quit gettin so bent out of shape cuz someone debeaked thier chicks! Ya know, it does grow back.

OK, I am not going to get into the break thing being right or wrong. However, I do want to know how you explained cutting off beaks to your kids? I know my kids would have noticed a missing beak part.

Just say its better than what they was seein before! I'd rather see some "beakless" chicks than bloody torn apart chicks.

Just for the record, NO, a debeaked chicken does not grow its beak back. One that is slightly trimmed (which is fine) will but not one that is debeaked. There is a HUGE difference.

I don't need to debeak anyone in my flock. I just want to know how her kids are with it since she said they were upset with the pecking. I would think they would be upset by this too and hope they are OK.
