Do Black Stars get broody?

Ok....so I think I'm understanding this: if I ever do have a hen go broody and want her to hatch out some eggs, just stick some golfballs under her until I can get the fertile eggs under her (during the night). Preferrably within a matter of a few days, I would think.

If a hen has gone broody she will happily sit on anything or nothing. She is more likely to stay put if she has eggs which can be fake or real (marked so you can replace them with ones you want her to hatch) or golf balls, pebbles etc.

I've owned two black stars. Neither went broody but both were EGG LAYING MACHINES!

I had one that laid over 90 eggs without missing one day. Beastie...

Sounds to me like you want a broody hen. If so I would suggest getting either a game hen or silkie, those are the best mommas.

I have eight bsl's and none have even tried to go broody.
