I wouldn't go by feathers on Chicks, unless they were bred to be feather sexed, and then it's wing feathers, not tail feathers.
Another type of feather sexed is sex-links.
Red sex-links males are lighter in color than the females.
Black sex-links males have a white spot on their head, females don't.
Here's my Red sex-links yesterday at 15 days old.
All are females. Some have fully feathered wings with tail feathers over a half inch.
Some have less feathering on wings and no tail feathers.
