He's almost 10. We've lived here 5 years and I've only ever seen one turtle so this was a shock in more ways than one. And I'll wring his neck if he did it b/c I'm been stressing about it ever since then!

Not, yet. Have been working all day. Will do it later today.
*I* didn't pick it up with a shovel. Jordan did! I was not sure if it was a snapping turtle so no way was I sticking my hand down near it an J begged to "get rid of it" by moving it with a shovel so who am I to stop him?
LOL! Well he's younger, so I guess its ok. Especially if you couldnt identify it. Lord knows, it might have been a ninja turtle and you could have lost a few limbs!
box turtles. They are so cool. We found one in the woods today and played with it for a while before putting it back --exactly-- where we found it. There do seem to be plenty around here--I didn't know they were endangered...
Anyway--they eat fruit, bugs, greens, veggies--but not really live animals. Snappers though--wow--they'll snatch a duckling right out of the water from below--that's why my ducklings are allowed to swim only at the very edge of the lake until they are mostly grown (despite my children wanting to take them out to the middle to swim with them).

Then my next question is how long has ur run been their? I had a box turtle or two thru out my child hood, and they dig down deep in the ground, when its hot; not just to hibernate...Could you have put your run over him while he was burried?
But if this happened to me their would not be a question; my son would be in trouble! lol
