Do chickens almost always hatch at 21 days?

I am still waiting as well. I will be gone on Thursday and hope it won't happen then. I want to make sure I can get the chicks out of the coop before something happens to them. Next time around I am going to try and build a broody hen pen or something because this has been stressful! LOL! Like I said, I will go in and the layers are just sneaking eggs under the setting hens! I sure don't want them trying to hatch eggs for months. Keep me posted on how yours are doing!

Day 20 it is for 2 little sweeties!!

Both under my cochin Kiki the black one is quite a bit smaller than the other but both look healthy. One egg under my OEGB is piping but has been all day

Thanks! You are right about the water but I think mine is ok. Its only about 1/4 inch of water and the chicks are already drinking out of it. The mom has been really sweet she lets me hold them and only gets nervous when they make a lot of noise. My OEGB in the next nest pecks at me when I get anywhere near her eggs. I'm sure she will be a protective mom.

this is my first time hatching. using a bator. i had my first peep peep peck its way outta its shell today. ( day 22). hopfully the rest will soon follow. there's 10 left to go. question...i have to leave the first baby in there til its dry right? or will opening it up drop the temp and hurt the eggs?

Leave the lil guy in there until the hatch is done. Opening the incubator, even for a tiny amount of time, can cause the humidity to plummet and cause cause shrink wrapping issues for the others. Chicks can live comfortably off of the remaining yolk for up to three days after they hatch so there's no urgency
