do chickens get ear infections?

My BCM cockeral has developed a waxy yellow/green crust around his ear holes. Could he have an ear infection? He is about 20 weeks old and other than being a big cluzty galoot acts fine.

I am not sure, but have you checked him for mites? Look around his vent and head and under his wings. It might be that. Hopefully someone else can help better!

I had exactly the same problem with one of my cockerels a couple of years back. It took a long time to get it cleared because I tried "over-the-counter" eardrops for dogs first - these did not work and had to resort to vet treatment - got drops called Canaural prescribed and these cleared it up - but had to check him regularly as it tended to come back. I am in UK so don't know if you can get Canaural where you are.
