I have never ever had chickens before. I have a chicken with a high squeak or peep? The others have a deeper bok bok. I wonder if she has something in her throat, or if that is just her voice???? Sorry for the silly questions. I have only had them for 3 weeks now, and I have never sampled chicken calls. She is laying and looks fine. Worried chicken momma. Dawn

From my limited experience they have very different voices and personalities. I can tell which of my 10 outdoor chickens is "talking" just from their voices. Never even have to look. You will probably be able to do the same before long.

We have 107 chickens with 107 different personalities and 107 different voices. From the house we can tell which roo is crowing and most of the time which girl layed an egg. You get very used to their noises and vocalizations. We are around our birds just about all day so probably have an unfair advantage over some people towards learning the vocals. We have one little Buff Brahma Bantam Roo that screams like a girl when you try to pick up the little hen that is in with him.

Chickens talk! I can tell if my roo is talking to his girls or if he is telling me to watch out cuz I'm gonna get a spur in my leg.

I recently got a couple of 10 week old ISA Brown pullets. They were still chirping when I got them. They are now starting the older chicken noises (at approx 13 wks) and I swear one of them is part goose......

It cracks me up everytime I hear her. The other one sounds totally normal and then the other one says 'HONK' I look at her, laugh and say - 'Are you sure your daddy isn't a goose?'

Sure, they've all got their own voices, the translations are the tricky part...

One of my chicks does not produce anything like a normal chick cheep. It almost sounds like what you might imagine a baby hawk sounding like; a slightly gravelly screechy noise. She is one of my favorites. They are all 7 weeks old now.
