Do Chickens Love? I think So!

Do I think my girls love? - some of them. Some are not so "people" oriented, unless there is food involved. However, Popper, my gold sexlink hen loves her mommy. She is so sweet, and will come peck on my front door to get me outside. How I wish she could come inside and live!! She wants to be picked up, if I don't pick her up, she flies up on my arm or shoulder "insisting" I pick her up. Even if I throw out scratch, she will leave it and the flock to follow me back to the house. I think she is so dear. I don't know if it's love or not... but it is sure something!
Posting a cute lil pic of my baby girl for all of you! She's tiny unlike the others. I never see them peck on her or be mean to her, but she is not as big and heathy as the others. Maybe that's why she's drawn to humans. maybe the hens are lil witches to her?? Love her heart!! I think she's beautiful

My little roo Tom Chicken loves me so! He follows me around and makes the funniest noise until I pick him up. I think he would let me carry him around all day. He is the sweetest thing ever!

I wish mine loved me as much as I love them! They weren't hand raised and I didn't get them until they were about 18weeks old.. They have come along way but they still won't let me snuggle (happily) with them

... But they do love the treats I bring

She reminds me of my "Lucy". She will follow me anywhere. She is always coming to see what I am doing even if the other girls are off somewhere else. It seems she prefers to spend time with me instead of her coopmates. I love her to death! She doesn't seem to be quite as hardy as the others either. I will be very upset the day she goes, but hopefully it won't be for many years.

I agree!! I have a "girl" that I call "Sable" (black sex link on the smaller side) that comes straight tome when I go into their house. She will sometimes ride on my shoulder while I clean or feed them. I have another "Baby Peep" that I have raised since Easter- she also follows me whenever I am in the coop. All of my group know where there feed is kept...so I think that they are smarter than a lot of folks give them credit for!

My girls are pets. They are very smart.

Anyone who says that chickens are stupid has not been paying attention.

Our chickens get cheese every evening at 4:30. Daylight savings time was hard for them! They knew it was time and it was impossible to explain the insanity we were going through.

My girls come to the back door a LOT. We have a large back yard with a multi level deck and they KNOW where we live.

They are the cutest things ever. So adorable.

Don't question, just enjoy.

gonzo&hispeeps :

Do your chicken love you as much as you love them? I think they do. I think they're smarter than what they're given credit for. We have several chickens, and they run around in our back yard all day. When our 8 yr old comes home from school he can't get out there with them soon enough, and the chickens all run to him, and the roo's crow as if to say hello! Maybe it's true, maybe its not, but I prefer to think chickens are capable of love just as a dog or a cat loves there owner... Any thoughts?

They love the food we give them.

I have a barred rock (Barbara)that is just sweet. She is curious, she is 'inquisitive'. She squats at the drop of a hat. She will sit and eat out of your hand. She can't wait to see what you've got to offer her.
I wish all of my birds were just like her.

I think that my hens love treats! However, whenever my large Standard Poodle comes out to the coop/run, they run up to the sides of the run to see him and he has NEVER fed them a treat!!! When he goes from one side of the run to the other, they follow on the inside. He just loves it and wags his tail!!! It is so cute to watch!
