Do chickens need night lights?

I was wondering this, but it is about heat, not them seeing.... You can purchase what is called a solar shed light... google it and you can find them pretty cheap!!

I'd suggest always looking in nest boxes before putting your hand in, anyway. Possums & other mammals aren't the only type of creature looking for a meal. Snakes like eggs, too. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not reach in and grab a snake!

I don't use "night lights" but from November to March use a light on a timer that turns on at 6 am, off at 9, on at 6 pm off at 9 to help production. I've notice in the evening before the lights go out that most are on the roost and asleep anyway.

I do too, but didn't say so. I also have poked a few hens and would faint if it was anything else. i should get in the habit of using a light to look in the box first.

Do you have cold winters? Any other light source? heat source?

No other light source... it gets dark sometimes around 4:30 pm in Winter ....we are in NE so our winters are decently cold...

He he he. I have 3 tiny solar lights outside of my coop. But that is just so I could see if there would be a racket.
