We lost a chick today and I want to do whatever we can to keep the rest of them..It was sad for our kiddos (and us)! This is our first t me with chicks. We have an awesome mama hen but I wasn't sure if I need to be checking there butts

What else do you need to watch for??

yes they do. I had a picture of a week old with a big clump on his butt standing on top of mom but I think it's on another computer. The mama hen will try to peck it off but I noticed it was there for a couple of days. I was going to clean it myself but it was off the next day. So answer to your question is yes, but I believe mama hen tries to clean it for them.
