do chikens need light to lay more eggs?

Hi, im maria im new and i was wondering if chikens need light to lay more eggs?

Chickens need as much light as possible, upto about 14 hours max per day to produce eggs. Natural light is best......

My understanding is that like people, chickens are born with all the eggs they'll ever lay. If you give them extra light (outside of what they're getting from nature) they'll lay more eggs, and burn out sooner. If you're raising them just for egg production, and plan to butcher them eventually, I would use artificial lighting. However, if you want to keep them as pets, don't supplement their natural light. That way they'll continue to lay longer, and you won't be stuck with a bunch of freeloaders.
