do cochins have spurs

I'm highly doubtful of this, as it would be one more issue that the hatchery would have to address when dealing with humane treatment issues. As well as it not being cost effective. Why pay someone to sex each and every single chick, then also pay someone to remove a nub that people may want their birds to have.

Just saying, from a business standpoint, not a good idea.

It is not the acid in a potato (?what acid?), or that the potato wears away the spur. The moist heat softens the spur--much like a soak in a hot bathtub softens your toenails. This allows you to pull/twist off the outer layer of the spur more easily.

How DO you remove a spur??

I twist them off--or at least the outer casing. The inner, much smaller, spur itself remains. If you have ever watched a dentist pull a tooth, it is similar. But I do not think mere words can adequately describe the procedure--it would be best to see someone demonstrate it.
