Do ducks have a "type"?

I think they do - I have Muscovy and Runners - and they definitely have their courtship rituals. The Runner girls are head-bobbers...they chase the boys they like around, bobbing their heads and making a distinctive quacking noise. šŸ™‚

Wow, awesome! My Cayuga does all of those and aside from the head bobbing I have kept wondering what the other three meant. He does the head-up-tail-up and then what looks to me like a charge with his head and neck stretched out while he runs forward, now and then when he sees me. I keep hoping to catch it on video but he only does it when I'm not filming (stubborn duck!). And he is non-stop doing the grunt whistle. Now I know what it means. I kept thinking the head-up-tail-up charge meant I had startled him or something because it seems to happen mostly when I show up "out of nowhere" by turning the corner around the house or something, or when I stand up suddenly from my seat. I'm going to catch it on video one of these days.

I got it! I wasn't even trying to! I was filming because my Pekin was standing on one foot. Obie (Cayuga) does the head-up-tail-up around the 20 second mark. It looks so hilarious to me and I love it.
