Do EE's have ear tufts and beards?

This whole EE thing has gotten even worse... LOL

Apparently an Easter Egger is an Ameraucana that does not meet the standard or breed true. BUT, it is also accepted as a title for any other chicken that lays a green/blue egg and is not an Araucana or Ameraucana.

Some would say that a mixed breed chicken is still just that... a mutt, even if it lays colored eggs. Like it wasn't confusing enough

Since Easter Eggers have NO standard ...... I'm functioning under the theory that all other blue/green egg layers, regardless of breeds are Easter Eggers

But regardless of the mass confusion on this thread, if your bird came from a colored egg, and I assume that it isn't old enough to lay yet, but has Aracauna in its back ground (what originally started EE) then yeah, I would classify it as an EE.

We got our little darlings hatched from a store, so I don't think I will ever know what color eggs they were in. maybe if it by some crazy chance it is a girl

and lays an egg that would give us a clue? Anyway thanks for all the great answers I am really pumped about the designer mutt! I am really not overly concerned about what kind of breed they are, I just like to know if someone asks. This one just doesn' t look like anybody else- kinda like a red-headed step child! But it is way loved and is very friendly especially if I have corn. It isn't bossy, in fact one of the other ones always calls it to her when it strays away. Silly Chickens- we have really loved having them! Thanks again!

That is clearly a roo, a pretty one too!!!

I have seen so many Ameraucana roos this year i can pick'em out at 1-2 weeks of age sometimes.
Got enough practice this year, all I have been hatching so far has been male...... I think I have forgotten what an Ameraucana hen looks like.

I was told by my local chicken breeder that Araucanas have the ear tuff and beard where Amaraucana have the beard if you look at my page my girl has a beard no ear tuffs she is a Amaraucana but she is 19 weeks and her comb is no where near as large as your guys is i think princess needs a name change to a more like Prince Charming

I picked up six EEs yesterday and three have the tufts and three don't.
I bought from a guy who shows Ameruacana chickens and he said its normal to have ones without the tufts?
Is that true?? Have I been had??
I will try and post some pictures of the new girls in the next couple of days so you all can see what I mean.

You should really do some research on the whole Araucana/Amaraucana/Easter Egger thing.

It is a lot more complex than ear tufts, muffs, and beards. An Easter Egger is basically a chicken that lays blue tinted (some folks say green) eggs and does not meet the standard for a recognized breed.

Thanks! Appreciate the info. My smaller young red hen is just beginning to get feathers sticking straight out at her ears. She lays pale green eggs , sometimes they look bluish green. They have a much harder shell than my Wyandottes' beige/brownish eggs. She has recently become an escape artist. I don't know how she's getting out. Maybe flying? Thanks again.
