The biting is nothing compared to the flogging with their wings once they latch on to you. The tamer the gander, the worse the flogging. (Thankfully there are exceptions.)

Good laughs!, But on a serious note here. Do not feed them from your hand. That can promote the bad behavior. I do have a pair of one year (plus) old pilgrim geese. The female has yet to get aggresive towards anyone except if they were to approach her sitting on her nest. The male is very protective of her too. He will chase us out of the run while she is laying. He does have his moments. He usually waits till you turn your back on him and he will come after you hissing. He has only bit one person so far and it was my DS. He just happened to be in the run and got cornered by 'Clyde'. He made sure that didn't happen again.

btw-- pw_quiltworks,, mine do not keep foxes away. They will flap their wings and honk real loud!

Yep especialy if they are laying egg's or broody.But I loved mine never had any major problem's from them.Mine were Big babie's most of the time.Ate from hand etc.I had 14 Toulouse 2 white Chinese and one African.A couple had pick's of people that were dummie's running from them though lol.Smack Da Butt.I raised them all from babie's and they were gonna act right or go to solitude pen lol.

Dave Holderead in his book tells how to handle aggressiveness in some geese. He says to stand still, wait a minute , then move slowly. It pretty much works. We had 4 different varieties 10 years ago. And they would go after 2 of my kids , but not the other two. And the horse trainer. LOL. But I have found with my new tufted buffs, that they got testy during laying season.They are ok now , they will follow me and my bucket :0) and even run/fly behind me. But mostly anything is bluff, just sass them back! I have found that they dislike me changing shoes!!! I think they may identify you by your feet somewhat. I usually wear a certain pair of crocs, but sometimes I wear other colors if I don't want to change shoes. and then one gandar will 'go after" my shoes! It's funny, I have to fuss at him, seems when he hears my voice and realises it's me ,he will stop- but he does fixate on my different colored feet!!!LOL

Running is the last thing you want to do!!! Unless you want your butt bit. If you stand up to them usually they back down.

On a funny note, a sherriff deputy had come to our home one day with the geese in the yard... Usually I hear a whole lot of honking and hissing before someone knocks on my door. I ask the officer if the geese gave him any trouble, he said "Nope I showed them my badge"
