I have a cockerel and not an Americuana? Someone else told me differently. Is a cockerel a rooster or hen???? Thank you for letting me know this. I am getting mixed information.
A cockerel is an immature rooster, not a breed. What you've pictured is a cockerel or rooster.I have a cockerel and not an Americuana? Someone else told me differently. Is a cockerel a rooster or hen???? Thank you for letting me know this. I am getting mixed information.
Thanks so much! Learned a lot here!!Sorry, a cockerel is a male chicken under a year of age. A pullet is a female chicken under 1 year. Rooster and hen are the terms for a bird over a year old.
That bird is male. He's an Easter Egger, though many hatcheries call them "Americanas". It's not the same as a true Ameraucana, but that doesn't make a difference to most people.

My Dutch Bantam does the same thing. She was raising a batch of chicks and she stood up on the roosts and crowed. She also raises chicks more than i would like her to.Years ago I had a black banty hen that would crow occasionally. The first time i saw it, i did not believe my eyes, and then i started watching her like a hawk. She didn't do it often, and never in the morning like a rooster would, just at random times. She also raised two clutches of chicks and she was a great mom.
We had a small flock of free range chickens and several roosters. She was not a dominant hen in any way, she stayed out of the way of the big girls.
