I am buying starter crumbles that I am getting at a local family owned feed store.

And I know, I have to provide water.

Chick starter and water (and heat and bedding and love). Offer grit if feeding treats other than soft things like yogurt and mashed eggs.

Yep, water and crumbles, clean bedding, and heat are all they'll need for a while until they start eating solid treats (then grit is a good idea). My chicks wouldn't even touch treats for a few weeks!

Good luck with them!

*edited because I just remembered that you should be careful to buy grit that does not have oyster shell in it. Some of the pet bird grit does have some in it, so you have to be careful*

I take a very fine grit and sprinkle it very lightly on top of their crumbles & mix it in. Like you were salting your food. Walmart & other box stores sell a "gravel & grit" in their pet bird department.

Good luck with your new babies!

Thanks

I was going to ask where to get the gravel and grit, but that was answered. If what Wal-Mart and Pet Smart (the only places around) doesn't have it without oyster shell, what should I do??? Oh, we do have another pet store, I will check there too.
