Do I put something on him or let nature take its course?

Thanks

I appreciate it. It has been a long time since I have had to deal with a dog attack.

If you can't get him to a vet then yes, I would put something on the wounds. Mix a little bit of betadine and water together in a spray bottle then spray the wounds with the solution at least twice a day. You can also buy Terramycin (antibiotics) at just about any feed & seed store. It may take awhile but as long as they don't get infected, the wounds will heal.

Thanks - also any suggestions on this guy?
What is the deal with the white foam near his eye. He is moving around and going to the bathroom but not eating - he is drinking but just remains droopy - no major open wounds on him.

Yea I would try to help him and at least give him a chance then if he passes at least you did what you could. I have been suprised with some of the injuries my birds have endured from predators and still live. I think he has a good chance and maybe 6 months or a year from now he will be that beautiful gobler again that you remember him as. Clean the wounds and use antibiotic sauve, that will also help keep the flys off. Keep him seperated and if you dont want to give him shots at least put antibiotics in his drinking water. Keep us posted and let us know how he does. Sorry this happened. Treat the duck the same and I have always heard that sugar in the drinking water helps them from going into shock or can bring them out. Your poor duck seems in shock.

What type of duck is he? You might want to use an eye antibiotic if his eye is infected that infection can travel to a weak part of his body and then a bad bacterial infection will start to brew. The one that has done well is BNP.(Vet gave it to me) It is a combo of Neomycin, Polymyxin B Sulfates and Bacitracin. Make sure it's for ophthalmic use. I'm sure you can find it at a feed store. If they have Baytril. That's good for bacterial infections especially in birds.(It's oral) Always good to keep on hand.
If you can take your turkey to a vet....one that treats birds, you can at least get an idea of the best med to put him on and the Dr. might give you some recommendations. Some vets are friends with other vet clinics and call each other and research if they don't know or specialize in that particular animal. Mine does.
Did your duck get attacked too?
Oh yeah "Rooster Booster" was recommended to me for my duck as well as my chickens. It's electrolytes and vitamins. And it works well for me to get my guys going again.
They say when a bird starts to show signs of sickness....they are VERY sick and if you don't jump on it right away, you might loose them.
This is just my experience and I am sure there are people on here that are wise beyond my years with these types of things.

Good Luck!
Your poor guy.(poor duck too) I'm sorry. I hope all goes well.

Well we lost blue boy

Denozo is still trucking along. I used peroxide on him and then sprayed betadine mixed with water. I also put some antibiotics in his water. I guess time will tell.

I also separated him from the others, he still has some fight to him - the only thing that has me concerned with him his on his chest. Looking at his wing on that side - it is kinda of greenish looking underneath the skin.

I agree that the greenish color could very well be bruising. I had a terrible turkey incident some time last fall myself. He pulled through but it was a battle.
We injected Pen at 1cc daily for a week to stem the infection and kept him in a confined stress free area.
I also found out the table sugar is very good for open wounds. It not only prevent infection but causes granulation of the tissue to promote healing.
If you send me a email addy to my PM box, I can send you a article that outlines the use of the sugar.
I credit a large part of my turkey recovering to the use of the sugar on his open wound.
