Do I Really Need Expensive, Organic, Non-GMO Feed?

I have a flock of six pullets My question is, are there actually benefits to spending the extra money on this type of high end feed? I don’t need corn-free feed (and don’t really understand why chickens would need it) because I actually feed my chickens cracked corn as a treat.

People feed super expensive feed like you mentioned mostly because they want their fellow men (and Women) to think that you are so well off that they don't need to buy the economy brand of chicken feed. The idea is not to help their chickens live a better life but to impress their fellow man (or woman)

There has been two instances where GMO wheat was found. One in 2005 in a shipment of grain in Thailand and another in 2013 growing on a farm in Oregon. Other than these two instances there is no, I repeat no GMO wheat grown in any part of the Earth, at least no GMO wheat that is involved in commerce. Both of these instances are believed to be deliberate acts of terrorism committed by Environmentalist to help their cause.

Its just a life choice in my humble opinion and marketing. Marketing as in 'I want to know where my ingredients come from'. Which many don't know the USA imports approximately 65 bushels a year of corn and corn products. So, do we really know? I work for a local feed store and had the awesome opportunity to tour Green Mountain Organic Feeds plant the other day. Was amazing how animal food is produced and they had a passion for it which was exciting. But, they get their ingredients by the train car load from some place else which is kind of my point. We don't really know...So the moral ending, use what works best for your feather butts and yourself. Organic is great stuff, expensive and I don't feel the quality is superior to an established brand that does the exact same amount of nutritional research. Read labels, educate yourself and make an educated decision. My flock are pets and very much loved and adored for just being chickens, I just can't afford to pay $26 a bag for food or I probably would use a Soy free, Non GMO organic ration.

You didn’t ask, but here are some of my favorite “healthy” labels:

1. Organic maple syrup. Pretty sure no on ever sprayed their maple trees with pesticides in order to increase their maple syrup yields...but maybe I’m unaware.

2. Evaporated cane juice. Um, yeah.. sugar.

2. Oreos are vegan, and therefore healthy. Lol.
I hate being the guy on a post, but Oreo's are not Vegan according to the manufacturer...hides***
