I have a bantam egg that I discovered had a crack in it. The chick was doing perfectly fine so I taped it up with just enough packing tape to cover the crack. I didn't have any nonscented wax available and packing tape was the only tape I had available. I roughed up the sticky side just enough to make it not too sticky that it wouldn't allow the egg to separate but still sticky enough to keep the moisture in. My question is, do I need to try and remove the tape once the chick pips? It is currently on day 18.

I did, with the egg I hatched that I had to tape, but it was a very tiny spot - I probably didn't need to. I have a taped egg that I just put into the incubator, but I'll be surprised if it develops - it got an impact crater during shipping, no leakage, so I figured I'd give it a shot. That one needed a lot more tape - I'd have used wax, but I have none. So I'll be waiting to see what happens, and maybe buying a candle.
