Do large poultry farmers feed Purina Layena?

Our TSC started carrying Omega-3 Layena for $15 a 40#(!) bag. It sells well with the urban farmers and small flock holders. Which I guess includes myself, since I try to hold it to under 100 birds. Come chick season, that number may triple. My area also has Hallway feeds that supply the thoroughbred horse farms. But I would have to buy a ton of feed at a time... My basement just isn't that large. Southern States has their own blends but they go from chick starter to broiler or layer. My late blooming wyandottes have a long inbetween area that Purina fills with "Flockraiser".

Sorry, I was wrong and under the impression (like probably a lot of other people) that Purina was still the Mega Purina Company that it was back in the day. Is there any truth to the rumor that Purina is the maker of the TSC feed "Dumor"?

I believe tht Purina Mills does make some TSC feeds. That does not make the cheaper Dumor the equal of the Purina products. TSC can have any number of companies make Dumore product. And probably on a "least cost" formulation.

If one of the biggies (Purina, Cargil, Kent, Nutrena, Blue Seal, etc.) put their company name on the bag it will be a feed you can expect to perform at a better level than the low cost product.

Purina (Land O'Lakes) is still quite a large company. There a lot of company brand names of feed that are actually milled by Purina but doesn't have their name on it. Dumor brands is one of them. PMI Industries is a subsidary of Purina Mills which makes Exclusive Pet Food. There are dozens of others that Purina mills as well. There is a large amount of info on the web about the topic.

I have family that work for Purina, and Purina does not supply by truckload to agri operations on large scale. They aim toward the low scale sales as its more money in the long run. Purina operated under the assumption people are buying their product as if they were for a pet, and not for cost. Mills are there for large scale mainly, and those costs change according to the specks of commodity prices.

Edited to add: Purina is owned by Nestle and everything under either name has MANY different names for packaging. Like was stated Dumor (a purina mix), or Country Acres. All Nestle brands.

If I could find it, I get coupons from the family and they have the entire list of all brands under Purina on it so I know what the coupons will or won't work for.

Simply incorrect. Nestle only owns only the familiar grocery store Purina brands of pet foods. I am not sure if Nestle even manufactures it.
Purina Mills which is owned by Land-O-Lakes is the producer of the poultry feeds.

Purina, the pet food company, does NOT manufacture livestock feeds. That was split many years ago as the whole Ralston-Purina Empire was falling apart.

The Nestle-Purina only sells pet foods. The Purina Milling is part of LOL/Purina Feeds which manufactures livestock feeds ranging from the Lifestyle feeds like Layena to truckload swine feeds.

I've been comparing feed bag tags looking for the best deal. I'm not one who buys into the gimmicks like animal protein free, omega 3, ets. That being said I also don't want to feed junk. I've been feeding Purina Layena pellets because here in Vancouver, WA it's the best price per bag, about $15 a bag. If there was a different brand, which was farm proven on a large scale, and available in 50 lbs bags, I'd be interested if the price was right.

Enlighten me on this please!

Dumor at TSC causes my birds' manure to have a stronger odor. Is this because of the animal protein? I know my Purina Flock Raiser, Layena, etc use soy protein. I also read "somewhere" that Dumor uses ground feathers for some of its protein. I don't actually have an issue with that per se, just wondering why the name brand of Purina is better than the "house" brand...
