Ugh.. I finally caved and bought some eggs to hatch. This will only be my second hatch (one last year). I'm so bummed because I'm thinking there's a slim chance for them. Firstoff, I dropped my thermometer when I was cleaning my incubator, but thought it was still okay. Later I found out it was not, and my temps were too low for the first couple days, maybe even 3 days for my eggs. Then. I forgot to add water for a few days... OMG...UGH... Right now, I am on day 15 (put them in 15 days ago), and I just candled. Amazingly I can see veins in several and I thought I seen movement in a couple too. I was thinking for sure, I wouldn't have any hatch. Any thoughts??? Am I wasting my time being hopeful???

And just to confirm, I set them on a Saturday, so is that day 1, or is Sunday day 1 (lockdown is on Thursday, I'm thinking?)? I'm hatching in a Brinsea Octagon Eco. As I understand it, I fill both water wells, and lay something damp in there too on day 18? It's been too long and I need a refresher! Thank you in advance!!

Check my post in this thread on how to count the days. It can get confusing.

If you set them on a Saturday, they should hatch on a Saturday. Should does not mean always, but that is in that thread too.

Your lockdown should be on a Wednesday.

I don't know how much too cool it was. Obviously being too cool or running out of water is not a good thing, but if they are developing, they have a good chance. I don't think you are wasting your time. There could be problems with the chicks and you may not be as successful as you would have otherwise been, but if they are developing, you have a chance.

Good luck!

Can anyone help me? I am new to the forum but am very concerned about my goose eggs. Mother goose died recently and was sitting on 8 eggs. I am down to 6 now. I have them in incubator, but two days ago I heard one peeping, and it was actually rolling around. Since then NOTHING. I am soooooo worried!!!!!!!!!! I have had them in the incubator for 24 days, but dont know how long she had them in the nest. She had just started laying them, and was not on the nest much. Any advise????????

someone told me if you can see the egg move you are on day 27 they also start to pip at this time so dont move it or you could hurt the chick geese hatch at around 30 days so wait till then my guess is if you have had them 24 days she would have been sitting for maybe a couple days count 35 days from when you got them that should give them plenty of time my geese eggs didn't make it to hatch they died at the last min but i left them because i wasn't sure but i found they started to smell very quickly when dead at that point i binned them

I lost power for 20 hours last week and my eggs still hatched fine. My first ever hatch I ran out of water in my trays and had next to no humidity and I had a decent hatch rate. There were a few that I had to help because the membrane was sticking to them and they couldn't seem to turn around to finish unzippin. Give them a chance and remember it may take a little longer. What some people forget is that even my hens jump off the nest for a bit every day and they have a fantastic hatch rate. In the bator without a fan I have noticed it can take 21 days plus 7 for them to hatch. Just don't give up on them too soon as that would be a shame. I had a friend give me a dozen quail eggs he had in his fridge for food and I actually hatched 3 after them being in a fridge for a week! They are amazing animals!

Thank you all for the useful info and for the hope!! So, could any of you recommend when I go into lockdown since my first two days of temps were low. Maybe even 3 days? Should I wait longer to enter lockdown? This is so frustrating for me! I hate not knowing for certain on what and when to do it!

I guess I'm getting confused with your term of lock down? Most people I know refer to that as the last 3 days before estimated hatch date. To me "lock down" is the last 3 days where you don't open the bator so you don't lower the temp and humidity levels. If you are just now getting them into the incubator I say go for it. You have nothing at all to loose even if they don't all hatch. I may have not read your initial post completely and was missing the gist of what you were saying.

Thank you florasbell....I think you were responding to me

is it normal to hear them one day ( as I did two days ago), then not to hear anything after that? I removed one this morning because it smelled really bad, but the others smell fine. If I candle them and dont see movement should I just leave them and see what happens. Im just worried because I heard it so clearly two days ago and now nothing.
