Hey guys

I'm re-posting this here because I think it's a more appropriate place...

Anyway, I have thirty seven, 2 to 3 week old Bourbon Red and Blue Slate poults.

Yesterday I noticed that their poop had a reddish tinge to it - kind of a red brick color.

I'm worried that it's blood, which would indicate coccidia, but they aren't showing any other signs of being sick. They are all active and eating and drinking normally.

This is my first time raising turkeys, and I find that info on coccidia in turkeys is really hard to find.

Do you think I need to be concerned? should I medicate? I'm trying to do this all chemical free, so I'd rather not use meds if I don't have to, but I want my birds to be healthy.

Any advice is much appreciated.

thanks
Jerah

It sounds like they could be normal, but I think it is always a good idea to be prepared with a few medicines in case of emergency. I like to keep Corid, Duramycin or Tylan, and BluKote around. Corid dosage for coccidia is 1/2 tsp. powder in 1 gallon of water, or 2 tsp. of the liquid type in 1 gallon water. Be familiar with normal looking poop with intestinal lining in it, as well as blood streaked of coccidiosis. If your turkeys start acting lethargic, sleepy, and not eating, I would consider treating them with Corid.
