do non-laying hens sing the "egg song" at all?

In my opinion and experience, that the egg laying song has little to do with the process of laying. It seems to actually be a warning to others in the area to stay away. This could be do to eggs, a barking dog, nosy cat, etc. I always though of it as a hens way of crowing or like a dog barking. One hen I had never layed - well never had a chance to lay:( She used to sing 'the egg song' long before any of the others started laying. Every morning she would start bauk bauk beauking at the nasty neighbor cat. I really miss her.

I have a couple of fakers who try to tell me they laid an egg, they will even do it when someone else laid one and pretend that it is theirs!
All of my silkie eggs are a light beige.

Awesome - then my little silkie girl Blossom is probably laying now! Lord knows she's more than old enough, LOL!
