Do pea combs grow?

I'm trying to establish how close my EEs are to laying and it doesn't seem like their pea combs are growing in size or getting very red. Will this even happen? They're around 20 weeks old.

Here are a couple pics of MY EE chickens at 22 weeks. The first one shows Rusty the rooster dustbathing with a couple of pullets. The buff colored one laid her first egg today. The white one has not laid an egg yet and you can see her comb better in the second picture.

Those are pea combs. This is a rose comb.

Wow, I never saw a rosecomb before, that rooster is beautiful, has he been shown.

Is he a serama?

I've only shown him once which was at my county fair this year. He did not place. He isn't Exhibition Quality though. I got him from Ideal.
