Do people like to buy roosters?

People in my area will buy roosters if they are very friendly. We also have at least one farm that acts as a rooster sanctuary and will take in any unwanted roosters. You may want to check for one near you.

I bought several POL pullets a while back and the guy insisted I take two roosters as well. I didn't need or want roosters, as I already had one, but he wouldn't sell the pullets without foisting the roos off into me as well. They're both still with me. One is my main rooster (pictured) and the other is the backup rooster. I've tried to give the backup rooster away for almost two years with no takers.

I have had beautiful males that I literally couldn't pay someone to take. Yes, I tried, first offering a pullet of the same breed for free and then cold hard cash.

Any yet yesterday within literally 2 minutes, I was able to sell three 4 week old boys for 5 bucks a piece. Little bit of a loss considering the feed and electricity, but I don't have to house them after Sunday and I got back the original shipping price

I have a friend who buys straight run chicks every year, and she gives me her cockerels when they get hormonal. She won't let me pay her or even buy her a sack of feed, I've tried. She knows they are going in my freezer. Around here, she can't otherwise sell them or give them away. As others have said, it depends on the market. Good luck.

So I’ve got a bunch of silkie Roos that I hatched, but I can’t keep all of them. I was wondering: Do people like to buy roosters? I don’t want to eat them 😂
Of course!
Put them up for free to a loving home.
Be certain they aren’t going to be used for cockfighting absolutely. Always ask what they will be for, if there are hens for them etc
A good home

To put it bluntly, no.

People like to buy hens who will lay eggs. For many people roosters are not allowed and for many other's they're annoying trouble.

Even people who do want roosters want 8-12 hens for every rooster.

The more conditions you put on the sale the less likely you are to make the sale.

"Always ask what they will be for" and always be prepared to be lied to, as someone who will use them as sparing partners for cockfight training will have no problem lying to your face. It saddens me to type this, but it's the truth. IMHO it is better for the cockerel to feed a needy family than to be used to fight when it has not been trained to fight and has no chance of having a respectful death.

This is useful. I’d be fine with the roosters ending up in somebody else’s freezer, I just can’t bring myself to do it. Ending up in cockfighting would be terrible! Thanks!

Some people are able to sell roosters successfully. However, this is not the norm. That’s why I think it’s important for anyone hatching eggs or buying straight run chicks to always have a plan for extra cockerels. There will be “extras” when the ratio is 50/50. Either have a confirmed buyer or people you know you can give them away to, a rooster-only coop, or be ready to butcher them.
