Good to know. How would you set up a bachelor's pad? I've heard buttons die when separated too long, and I'm guessing raising quail babies will take weeks if not months for the hen.

The hen cares for the chicks about two weeks-eggs hatch in 16 days after brooding/incubation starts. In captivity many males drive the hens from the nest and, or, kill the chicks when they hatch. We did have males that proved to be good parents, but decided it wasn't worth the chance as many were destructive. Raising button quail was a science project that went on for several years. The kids enjoyed it immensely.Good to know. How would you set up a bachelor's pad? In my Science classroom the students used 10 gallon aquariums, but any pen suitable for quail could be used. I left mine in and he made a good dad. Make sure your roo's temperament is sweet and caring. Also, be careful of them running over their babies, mine got stomped accidentally a few times growing up.I've got my first egg today. The male and female are taking turns laying on the egg. I should be fine to leave the male in right?
Three hens are laying in the same place, so no, they're not broody. If you wish to try and get a broody quail use the biggest enclosure you can get, provide lots of cover and hidey holes. Fluffed up hay works well for quail cover. Brooding is more likely if there is just a pair in the pen; but it really depends on the cage size. With a huge cage more quail could be used.I have 7 coturnix quail, and every day I get 3 eggs. The three eggs are always together in the same place, so does that mean that some, or just one, of my hens are broody?
if so, can I just let her sit on her eggs and will the eggs be okay? Just wondering![]()
Do quail take care of their eggs? Or do I need to use incubator to hatch eggs?
