Landrace project F1 chicks!!!

I've hatched 23 chicks in total and I only have 1 make rn, It's is crazy! All the wheatens are almost 95% orange in all their plumage except for the tails, and my birchen hatch has a singular male with a red crest and wattles and he hatched only to get splayed hours later so I can't use him in my project. Idk if it's genetic and even though I fixed his leg issues idk if I should use him in my project. They're all quite friendly though!

is the surface of your brooder slippery? or somehow other chicks stepped on him? I did have splayed leg chicks but they were like that from the moment they hatched.

He hatched normally, and my incubator was lined with paper towels. He was moved to a brooder that had a wire bottom but had paper towel and straw over it for the first week so the chicks can easily move in the brooder. However, overnight the chick had developed splayed legs by the morning.

many chicks have hard time getting out of the shell. my personal opinion is that genetic faults cannot be corrected by a piece of tape or anything. if genetic it will show up later as the chic grows. of course I am not a vet, it is just my opinion and my experience. if this chic grows into a healthy roo(?) I would use him for breeding.

long time ago I had a pullet with some genetic leg issue. as she was growing her legs could not carry her body properly so it was too obvious.

His legs aren't splayed out too bad and did kinda heal but they are kinda spaced outward. However he can get around just fine.

I've had that happen in my larger heavier breeds when I was breeding them. Sad when you get birds like that
