I have post here about rats not eating poison pellets that I have out for almost a month...

But until a few days ago the rats finally went in the poison box and ate it all. For 3 nights straight I had to re-bait the boxes every few hours cause they ate it all during the nights. Now, I checked today and they didn't eat anything. I am thinking cause the rats are getting weak/sick. If half the rats ate the poison start to die and the rats that haven't see there buddy's dead/sick will they move on and find a new place to live? I heard rats crap there pants when they see other rats dead and move there nest?

I had a short rat problem in my feed shed. After getting two in a rat trap I didn't see anymore and they haven't been back. Rats are very intelligent and can probably figure out when its time to get out. Another possibility, a bunch of rats ate the poison, the poisoned rats got weak and died, and were eaten by other rats, which poisoned them, and eventually so many died off the remainder fled looking for new homes. I've heard of cannibalistic rats.

We would get rats in the fall and winter months after the farms harvested the local crops they would come in from the fields and live under our coop and sheds. We never had any problem with them, kept our feed in metal garbage cans. I would shoot them whenever I could catch one outside and we did put out some poison. They usually left in the spring summer back to the fields to return in the fall. Maybe they would have stayed year round had we not put the feed in cans.
