Do roosters always crow?

After a dog disaster (killed all but one hen) I bought a big fence along with 9 pullets...and got 8 hens (I hope) and one rooster. He is about 21 weeks now and is jumping on anyone who stands still long enough and doesn't get too angry. Including my one survivor hen, though she is willing to put him in his place when she's not in the mood or it comes to roost hierarchy. The hens are 3 yrs (1), 21 weeks (1), 15 weeks (6) and 13 weeks(1). So far it's been pretty calm and quiet. And he's been reasonably polite, letting them eat first and not jumping on them every minute though I'm pretty sure he's thinking about it.

He is a Cochin and about 1/3 larger than anyone else (wyandottes, easter eggers, welsummer, isa brown, barred rock and a Cochin his own age).

He hasn't crowed yet. So far the ladies are a little louder than he is, especially the older hen who is the only one laying. But all are a fairly quiet bunch.

If he crows loudly, I'll have to give him away. Any chance he won't crow?????

You never know how much he will crow. I have one great rooster called Harvey the Great. He is a huge Jersey Giant and he crows very little. Usually two or three times in the morning and that is it for the day! The hens make much more racket than he does! I've had other roosters that crow all day long. It just depends on the rooster. Just wait and see what develops. Good Luck! :hugs
