Do roosters develop faster than hens? Pics...

What color are your other chicks' feet? On the first pic it looks like both of the chicks have orange feet.

They might have mistaken you and istead of BO you go Buff Rocks?

My Buff Orpington Maisie looked just like that at that age. She had very yellow/orange legs and they turned white as she got full grown.

Here's a pic of Maisie at 2 weeks. The chick in background is a RIR.

I actually got these chicks from the local feed/farm store, and I don't know where they were hatched. All of their legs are pretty dark orange at this point. I bet they're Buff Rocks!

I'm a dork. I just went to check on them and turned off the RED heat lamp, and noticed their legs are VERY pale, almost white. Pretty sure they're Buff Orpingtons after all. Still unsure if there are roos in there!

Yeah, went thru that exact same thing with mine, there's even a thread from 2007 about it somewhere...Buff Orps with orange legs as chicks. I was freaking out. But they do fade & they will turn to proper pink or white Orpington legs. Buff Rocks, I think, are pretty rare so probably wouldn't have gotten them by accident.

I recently ordered chicks at our feed store, and I specifically requested 1 rooster, and about 12 hens, my roo had a mark on its head, none on my hens . As we all know, the hatcherys are not 100% accurate at sexing, but when I saw the dot painted on the head of your chick, I recognised it as the marking that some hatcheries use to- A. Mark a chick vaccintaed for Mareks at the hatchery, or B. Identify a known rooster for a special order.

You could ask the most knowelgeable person at your store what hatchery they buy from, and ask them if they know why the hatchery puts dots on the chicks.
