i have a silkie rooster who has done alot of the parenting to my 9 week old chicks who have just started sleeping on the perce with there mom a couple of nigths ago i no ganders sometimes do it. but i am wondering do the roosters do anything atall or is my little fella just a good daddy last nigth they even slept under him lol they follow him all the time he gives them food and protects them lol he would die if anything ever happined to them

I have read that silkie roosters sometimes are more nurturing, and have heard of other breeds who will sit on the chicks. My salmon faverolles roo is pretty gentle with them.

I had what I now think was a Self Blue D'uccle bantam rooster pair that adopted babies when the mother died. My parents also had bantams do this with chicks, when the mothers died.

this fella loves them to bits if they cirp once he runs over and makes sure there ok.if a dog comes he makes sur the chicks hide or something and allways makes sure they get alot off food :)
