I got a new rooster, a polish/silkie 2 yrs old. He's been locked in the crate for a week in quarantine. I let him out in the run with the girls today and he did great. Tonight when I went to lock everyone up for the night, he attacked me in the coop. (12x12 stall) I had on my red rubber boots, which I always do and none of the hens seem to mind, but he did. This was his first night loose in the coop and he certainly let me know he didn't want me there. I was totally unprepared....I had just gathered the last egg and he hopped off the roost and lunged at me over and over. I kicked him and yelled no, but he was very persistent. Even as I was backing away to get out the door, he was still attacking me. Once outside I grabbed the corn broom and went back in. He attacked again and I swatted him good with the broom, this didn't stop him. I felt like I needed to tell him I was boss and kept swatting him until he left me alone and went back to the roost. So now I am trying to figure out if it's the boots or the bird. I was very clear to the woman I got him from that he needed to be a nice bird as I have a 3 yr old son and 1 yr old daughter. She said he's never been mean and she has a 5 yr old granddaughter that took care of him. So do I give him time to adjust, buy new boots, or bring him back? thanks
