Do roosters molt?

I am too lazy to look up, but do roosters molt similar to the hens. My roosters is losing lots of neck feathers, he looks kind of pathetic. Thinking back, he lost all of the long tail feathers 3-4 mths ago. He may be regrowing those slowly. Looking up close, there are new feathers coming out at the neck. Glancing at him, I dont see any thing crawling around on his skin.

yes roosters do molt i have one that goes almost completly bald everytime he does. otherwise if you have too many roosters the others could be ripping them out

I am glad you asked that! I have one that looks almost naked and very ugly!! However I had been told , not by anyone here, that roosters dont molt. They said he was sick and I should, well you know!! He is a frizzle and very pretty when he has feathers

After I posted the question, I found the thread "worst chicken molt picture contest" which answers my question. Boy, those chickens on there make my rooster looks good. I have only one rooster (and 7 hens) so there is no fighting there. Thanks for a quick reply.

what a pretty cross! i think roos molts are sometimes more noticable than hens, you should see my cochin lol!

My reply was going to be simply: Darn tootin' they molt! And boy, do they look miserable when they do so!

There's your handsome bunk o' yard eye candy looking so raggedy! Poor thing. I try not to say anything about his looks to my dominant roo when he's molting; I usually tell him how handsome he looks.

My roos molt but barely...their roo feathers and some at the base of the tail but not as badly as my hens. I've never seen any of my roos molt as badly as you all describe...maybe more for ornamental breeds?
