My second silkie chick just hatched and I noticed a bulge on its head. Is this normal? My first chick had nothing of such sort.

A while. Unless the develop noticeable combs/wattles young. It also depends on how close to show quality they are. The better the quality, the harder it is to tell. I'd say at least 3 months. Males get large mulberry colored combs and wattles, plus streamers on their head that look like fly away hairs. Females have a round, smooth crest and take a long while to develop comb and wattles.how long before i can identify the gender? And what am i supposed to look for?

Guys could you tell me if this chick is dead? I don't see any movement nor veins.
Silkies should have dark skin on their feet and dark beaks (as in black or dark grey). Is pic 1 a mix? Or maybe a different breed?
