Do Silkies like the rain?

All of my Silkies never go inside the coop when it rains! They just hang outside while its down pouring! I usually end up feeling so bad that I bring them inside and dry them off! :(

I've thought about doing that myself but mine are quite skitty and don't like being handled. (Although I handle them every day)

Quote: mine were exactly the same. Only managed to make friends with Sally when she went broody and I gave her chicks and was feeding them all by hand to get them comfortable with me. Stubs and Scrambles went broody but I cant give them chicks atm but I pick them up to move them out of the box so I can get to the eggs through out the day with both I had to cover their heads with a towel so they wouldnt shred my hands! Stubs lets me pick her up and pet her now but still working on Scrambles they are 6 months ish now so just be patient they will come round just figure out what their favourite treat is and keep feeding them that until they like you

I've not been pecked yet, once I've got hold of them they are not too bad but they run away from me when I enter their run. (There's a really narrow gap that they squeeze through between the coop and the run which I cannot reach. I'm sure it's a game to them.) I think I'll try hand feeding.

Most of my silkies seem to find cover under the trees or bushes, except for my Partridge Silkie rooster - that boy likes to get WET! When we had some nasty wet and cold weather this winter I did bring him in the house to thaw the ice off of him.

My silkies don't particularly like the rain, though the like to splash in the puddles during summer. In winter I try to keep them as dry as possible because of their hair like feathers which offer no rain protection or protection from the cold ( when wet) . Typically they would spend the wet cold months in the tunnel house we had at the old house where it was always warm and dry and they did really well. Occasionally ive brought them inside to dry them using a hair dryer. I have one special silkie who is mentally challenged a bit and she loves getting wet and jumping in muddy puddles, when the funs over she come up to the sliding door and squarks to be let in because she is cold, so I give her a wash if needed and dry her up ( to be on the safe side she spends the night on really bad days where shes gotten wet in a wee crate by the fire) .

But I try to keep them as dry as possible in winter to avoid the risks of sickness and death

That is so sweet how she tells you when she needs to be washed and dried!

Thanks :) she is a sweet heart. She also taps on the glass door and squarks/ sings when she has laid an egg for me and she will run back to the nest box then back to me to make sure I follow to inspect the egg she has laid me. It's nice that she wants to share her fave and special moments with me

That is adorable! Wish mine where more like that but since they used to let themselves into the kitchen we had to put a fence up as mum and dad werent very impressed! So even if they wanted to they cant get to me lol
