Do silkies taste GOOD?

Thanks for the pic's! I'm ordering some silkies st run. so the logical thing would be to keep a couple girls and eat the roo's. I mean it's not like I'm going to eat my dog next, or anything. besides my dog weights 80 lbs and the left over would never fit in the frig.

I just cant have alot of roo's running around. Do I cook them like any other chicken? That soup you made looks great!

Looks tastey to me too!

Purple Chicken, Recipe Please!!!! that soup looks really good. I get Chicken stock, rice, carrots and celery, and of course Chicken du jour, what am I not seeing in there?

That soup looks good but it was a while ago. My soup skills have improved
thanks to Miss Prissy and practice.

My next silkie roo recipe will be:

2 roasted or deep fried silkie roos- roating brings out more flavor in the soup
10 cloves garlic
2 onions
8 carrots
4 qts water
salt & pepper (lots of pepper)
Parsley - Fresh if you have it
I bunch celery, including leaves (great flavor)
Indulge yourself with prefered spices

Slow cook for 18 to 24 hours in crockpot set on low (180 degrees)

Strain and seperate all the meat. I like to throw all the carrots, most of the
celery & onions back in the broth.

Picking the silkie meat is the same as picking a small chicken

I love rice in my soup. I cook the rice and add it to the soup when serving.
Use noodles if you prefer.

Remember a silkie is still a chicken.

My silkie roos were obnoxious. They would not shut up and would attack my feet
when I walked in the run. It wasn't an enjoyable thing to cull them, as much as I like
to joke about it. Now, in hindsight, I can't wait for the next batch.

Yeah!
recipe please!

Now, every time, someone post a pic of there beloved silkie.
All I will be able to think about is how much better it would be if there chicken was in the middle of your soup, on my table.

Silkies with tea anyone

Purplechicken, are we really the only two people who would ate one?

I'm starting to get nervous.......

I myself have 25 straight run silkies coming soon..
I plan to keep maybe half a dozen as broodies..
But the rest...I'm gonna try to sell..
And what I don't sell..I'm gonna "invite to dinner"

Soo...Are they only good as soup?

Or would they make good (tho small) fryers at the proper age?

Anybody got any recipes other than soup?

I originally thought about putting this question in the recipe section..But there seem to be lots of folks that -could never eat a silkie-

This is so weird. I have never been to this meat section before as I only have layers/pets. (well, so far... the roos are pushing it. lol) But today I decided to stop by a new oriental grocery store nearby. I was shocked to see little scrawny black skinned chickens in their cooler. I picked up the package and it said Silkie Chickens.

So I came here to ask about it, and I find this thread reopened after a year. Weird.
I didn't know Silkies were a Chinese delicacy. Not surprising though. And I definitely didn't know they had black skin. Very odd.
