do the chickens bite even when they are old

Mean???? Heck no. Those little bugger take every chance they get to peck and bite if you get in the way of them and their hens. One good smack across the coop shows them the REAL boss is. And I am not talking about a full on IMGONNAKILLYOU kick. I mean a good smack that may daze him.

Roosters aren't always mean. In the many years I've had chickens, I've only had one roo that was human-aggressive. I've had a few that had to go because they were too mean with other chickens.

I don't recommend kicking a chicken unless you have to, like a mean one attacks and you're defending yourself. I do hope that won't happen to you, but it can.

When a hen is setting on eggs, or has chicks, she may peck if she thinks you are a threat to her eggs or chicks. And they do usually think that, but mostly they peck a little, and it's not bad. I have had a few that would grab with their beaks and shake, but that's rare. Those hens make really good moms, though, and are very good at protecting their chicks, so I don't mind.

Sometimes, when I wear flip flops, a chicken will mistake one of my toes for a fat juicy worm, and peck a toe. It doesn't usually hurt, it's just funny.
