When a hen lays first eggs does it leave a smear on feathers? Mine have a bit of a skid mark

You don't have to clean the eggs as the 'bloom' helps protect the egg. The first eggs will be slightly 'off' until the egg making factory gets all the kinks worked out. You'll see strange shells, double-yolkers, wind eggs and so forth. May be a month or two before the eggs start to be uniform in shape and size. Make sure you are feeding a good quality diet as you already are and soon you'll have plenty of eggs to share.
