do they ever shut up?

In laws surprised us with 6 guinea chicks today, and it seems that any time they are awake they are testing their vocal chords. I am new to chickens, our first ones turn a month old in 2 days, but they were no where near as noisy, and at least I could usually figure out what their problem was. When I go check on the guineas, they just fall asleep like they weren't just giving the bird equivalent of a heavy metal rock concert. Keeping their temp 90-95 with room to get away from heat, they found and like their water and food, but they jus won't shut up!

I can't address the keet issue since mine haven't arrived, yet. I have just become the owner of 10 guineas (8months old - 1 year). First time owner. We picked up 7 birds from a friend. These birds were very loud at her place. I remember them being MUCH louder there than the 3 that had shown up at our house a week earlier (can't find the original owners). I had a fear of what I was getting into when I heard their noise level! After a few days in our coop they quietened down by half. now - 2 or 3 weeks later - they only sound off when something scares them, like the next door neighbor's kids running too close to the fence where their coop is. They are still on lock down to acclimate them so they won't disappear when I let them roam. So I can't say if they will get louder when they are on the loose.

Don't know if this helps any but hopefully, yours will settle down soon. They are really cool birds; much more interesting than chickens

5:30 this morning they finally stayed quiet long enough for me to fall asleep. I can hear them throughout my whole house! I gave them some stuffed animals and some sweatpant scraps and it seemed to help make up for the fact that their adopted mommy died and I took away their other companions. I keep telling myself to be grateful my inlaws actually listen to me when I talk about things I want, I just wish they had been around when my husband and I decided that guineas would definitely be a bad idea for our SUBDIVISION. oy vey. lol, could be worse, as they were leaving they mentioned they saw a donkey for sell - guess they couldn't get that into a Mazda station wagon!
