Do they need crumbles daily?

could incorrect feed be wy they went off laying as good as they should when they should have still been laying, like 2 years ago if they were about 6?
Yes.
Incorrect feed can cause them to stop laying and also develop serious internal problems which will kill them at a younger age than if they were being feed a balanced diet.

They're nearly out of the wrong stuff so I don't know if I have enough to mix in but yes. you can def do it that way and if I have to I can buy a small bag to mix with the right bag!
Perhaps, mix in the new feed with the little that you have leftover of the scratch so it’s not so drastic for them since you are concerned about them accepting the bones feed. Plus, many animals do not like change, so it might help. Then by day three it could be purely the the good feed and no more scratch. :)

if I ever get chickens again, and I only say if because I may have to move to where we don't have such a huge yard or they're not zoned for it, I def will research laying egg age decline in which bids, but i have my birds for pets now more than egg layers.
Incorrect feed can affect their laying, yes. But it could also be their breed and age. Many breeds really slow down egg production once they get that old. :hmm

WEll, see my dad bought them that stuff and I never knew it wasn't thr right food and he didn't either. I wouldn't ever be like I Can't afford the right stuff let me feed them junk:( I'd buy them a smaller bag of the good stuff, or see if I could get a coupon, or there's even groups on facebook for asking for financial help, I have tried there before. I thought their food was like 50 dollars , and come to find out it's only like 15 for a good size bag ya'all been showing me:D

OTE="Mimi13, post: 22070515, member: 500465"]Of course they are gonna want the scratch grains over the nutritional feed, just like kids will choose chips and candy over broccoli and good protein.

Your birds may protest a bit, but you are the parent. Withhold the treats and feed the good stuff. Like @valerie said earlier, “It sure isn’t cheap by any means,” but it is what is best for them. If the cost of feed is too expensive, I would lessen the number of birds I had before I fed them only junk food. Since you have a “mixed flock” (different ages and different sexes), your best bet to feed is an All Flock or Flock Raiser, with oyster shell à la carte. My birds tend to prefer the crumbles over pellets, but if I could find Purina All Flock in pellets that’s what mine would get...until then, the crumbles it’ll be.[/QUOTE]

It makes no difference to me what age someone is.
You are never too young or too old to learn something.

If you have to beg for financial help to feed your animals then you probably shouldn't have animals.

Momma and her babies this morning. the other birds bullied and chased them so much she ran to this bush for saftey and they love it there. well cuz they're hidden from the big girls and can camp out and come out when they want.

@ChrisisaGirl, I want to thank you for reaching out and asking the tough questions. It was nice of you to take over older hens from your dad, and keep them even if they don't lay anymore. I know you want to do the right thing for them, and came here to make sure you were. We have given you a lot of advice, and believe me it is from the heart. We have all made mistakes while we were learning about chickens, and sometimes there is so much advice coming our way we still don't know which way is the right way.

Wow! How great that you found out the formulated food is actually less expensive than you thought. I haven't actually tracked how much I spend on chicken feed, but I'm going to. It doesn't seem like a lot, but I only have 12 birds. One thing is, feeding a complete nutritional feed means they will get more nutrition with less food. They will eat a lot of junk, but probably 1/2 cup each a day of the good stuff.
