In a large broiler farms, people mostly raise hens, very few people raise roosters. The reason is that you will lose money. Roosters do not lay eggs, and they do not grow as much meat; therefore, raising them is not a profitable thing to do, right?
but now, Southern chicken farms are specialized in raising roosters. It is becoming more and more popular, what is happening?
Rooster is very aggressive by nature, especially in its adolescences. It is even more restless.
Although they are fighting, quite imposing, but these "male citizen" in the farms not popular at all.
Why? couse raise the roosters is not worth.the eat a lot but flesh less. the fight all day,Consumes all physical strenth, how to flesh? Therefore, when these "unfortunate eggs"are hatch, they are they are pick out from group Pangde Jian: We have an annual slaughter more than 50 million chicks ,there are more than 20 million cock destroy, it is used to feed the fish.
Chicks hatched, male and female are half and half, and it's so pity to pick out half of the cockeral. Do u think there is a way to train the chicks, so they will be quite and grow some meat?
The rooster are born by nature to fight, there is no way to train them. We must use surgery. Surgery is to castrate. castration is the removal of testicles in roosters.
Rooster castration is also called the capon. shanji, southerners called them shuji. To put it plainly, it is to neuter the roosters! If they survive under the knife, what will they become?
the original long comb, after castrated , it become shorter and continue to shrink.
the comb under the mouth also become shorter.see, those two roosters was hatched in the same day, this one already did the surgery, and this not.You see, they are not only physical characteristics changed, but also different size.capon is much taller, bigger. This because after castrate the rooster, reduce the male hormone greatly. So temperament has become very gentle.not competitive, fighting at all.activity reduced and benefits is coming. What benefits? flesh up.
that chest of chicken has become much fatter and thicker. The Ordinary chicken almost up to three half kilogram of weight, but the capon grow up to 5,6kg,even 7kg.

I raised 35 "Freedom Rangers" this summer. They were straight run, which means that they were 50/50 male to female. At the time of slaughter, the roosters averaged about 5oz heavier than the pullets. We ate one for Sunday dinner and he was delicious. I don't know what would be gained by castrating them. Perhaps on a breed that takes longer to mature it would be worthwhile, but these fellows were nice and juicy and didn't give me a hard time. A little bit of crowing, but not much.
