Do very sick chickens ever recover and live for long?

Ok i have to tell people that love chickens like I do what is going on now. My husband cares but not like us! I realize this does not mean she is cured or going to survive but this hen is running for food! I haven't seen her run or even look at food or treats for weeks. I have been carrying her out in the morning and back in whenever i let them out of the run because she just stood there. Today, she came out in the morning as you know, then she ate the yeast infection treatment with no coaxing, then she came back in the run when I shook the bag (that's how i get them all back in) which she has not done for weeks. So I thought, ok let's try that scrambled egg she spit out yesterday. Sure enough, she got pummeled by other running chickens, but jumped back up and stumbled her way to the bowl. I grabbed some out before it was sucked up, and she couldn't stop eating it from my hand. Again, i am not crazy enough to think she is all better but at least she feels better for now and looks happy again. Even if it is just for a day. Maybe this is her last hurrah but i will take it. Go down fighting!

Hi me again. She is still alive but getting worse. My question is, would anything besides gapeworm cause gaping and head shaking? No gurgling heard but they are all doing this again. No sneezing or runny nose. No lack of appetite except her. Thank you

I'm sorry that she is getting worse again.

Were you able to get a follow up fecal float? Gapeworm and Capillary worms are 2 different species. Do you feel that they may have Gapeworm instead?

Gaping and head shaking could also be due to respiratory disease. Something like Infectious Bronchitis, which is a virus may be a possibility since they all are exhibiting symptoms.

I just started a new post as emergency. I found her laying what i thought was dead tonight. On her side feet out neck out head down. I cried and she opened hef eyes and lifted her head. I have not gotten a new float test. The vet i am working with was out last week. i was going wednesday again. I do suspect gapeworms. I was actually out getting safeguard tonight when i got back and found her laying that way alone in the dark in the run. Believe it or not she is up walking drinking and eating scrambled egg. I gave her a little nutridrench and have her in the laundry room in a cage.

I'm glad she is rebounding. I wonder if she overheated, it's been awfully hot and muggy.
My flock has been panting all day, even with fans and cold water.

If you feel it's gapeworm, then I would go ahead and treat with the Safeguard at 1/4ml per pound of weight for 5days in a row.
